I am currently an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas Tech University in August of 2002. However, I am not a native Texan. Although I was born in California and grew up in Oklahoma, my career started in Louisiana. McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana presented me with both a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Mathematical Sciences. They also let me teach as a graduate assistant for several years. After graduation, I worked for Chromaloy Natural Resources and TBW Industries in Houma, Louisiana. Then Louisiana State University had an opening for an Instructor, and I taught there for 4 years.
After the move to Texas, I found a position with EXXON Company, USA and stayed there 7 years before going back to teaching. I thought I learned a lot in college, but the learning curve at EXXON was straight up. It was hard work, but the experience was great.
My passion at the time is Software Process, and I am constantly looking for better ways to train students to develop high quality software. Click here to view my current software process.
If you would like to discuss quality in software, you can email me at owen_c@utpb.edu or call my office at 432-552-2257.
