- You should know the four types of leadership styles discussed in the text, be able
to describe and explain which of the styles is best suited in the health promotion field.
- Be able to describe and define Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs and how it relates
to health promotion.
- Review the Expectancy theory as it relates to motivation; how does this interrelate
with job satisfaction and job performance.
- Be able to discuss the needs of a manager, managerial skills, working styles, and
how authority and delegation would apply to health promotion
Chapter 6 - Job Design and Evaluation
- Be able to differentiate between a job analysis and job descriptions; know how the
process for these two occur
- Be able to describe and discuss the development and use of job descriptions
- Be prepared to develop a job specicification based on any number of possible job
descriptions from the health promotion field.
Chapter 7 - Staffing
- Be able to differentiate between the steps to the selection processes of
employment.
- What roles do interviewing, testing and reference checks play as a function of the
hiring process.
- Know how to handle job separations, demotions, promotions, and successions.
Chapter 8 - Appraisal, Training, and Development
- Be able to develop a performance appraisal policy and describe how to conduct a
proper performance appraisal.
Chapter 9 - Communication Management
- Be able to discuss and describe the formal communications process.
- Be able to differentiate between upward, lateral and downward communication
patterns.
- Know the basic steps necessary to conduct an efficient and professional meeting.
Chapter 11 - The Open Market Analogy
- Be able to describe and differentiate between the different market elements.
- You should know what drives the different market forces and how these affect health
promotion.
Chapter 12 - Supply and Demand
- Be able to describe and differentiate between the different external and internal
influences on Supply and Demand.
