KINE 4300.501: Measurement & Evaluation in Human Performance Time: 5:40 p.m. - 6:55 p.m. MW Instructor: James Eldridge Office: MB 3144 Phone# 552-2331 Email: eldridge_j@utpb.edu Text : Measurement and Evaluation in Human Performance (textbook); Morrow -- Required Summary of Course: Testing and measurement are central to the physical education professional. Each of us make evaluative decisions daily in the classroom, conducting performance tests, completing fitness evaluations, and selecting team members. The purpose of this course is help the student develop a sound foundation in basic measurement concepts. The goal of this course is to provide the student with the appropriate tools to make accurate and valid decisions. To accomplish this goal, the student will learn how to assemble, sort, evaluate, and draw conclusions from various data. Upon completion of the course, the student will possess (1) a basic understanding of the concepts in reliability, validity, and objectivity, (2) an appreciation of the historical and contemporary concepts in measurement, and (3) the capability to relate their studies of the fundamental concepts to real world endeavors. Students are expected to attend every class unless excused due to illness or extreme circumstances. Grading Scheme: Each student begins with 1,000 points (equivalent to the grade of an A) Points are deducted from this total by answering test/quiz questions incorrectly, missing deadlines for the submission of class projects, and incomplete group research. The grading sequence is as follows: 1,000 - 900 = A; 899 - 800 = B; 799 - 700 = C; 699 - 600 = D; 599 or below = F Course Layout: Data Analysis Assignment 1 Part A Presidents Council: Physical Fitness Test Presidents Council: Health Fitness Test Presidents Council: Physical Fitness Test Norms Presidents Council: Health Fitness Test Standards Correlation Project. Bring to Class on 03/12/08 Some Helpful tips for analyzing Correlations TEST 2 Reliability Question: Must be Turned in on the day of the test. FINAL EXAM DATA ASSIGNMENT : Complete a Split Halves Reliability Coefficient and Item Analysis for this data set. Explain Which Questions Will be removed and then complete a Second Split Halves Reliability Coefficient on the corrected Data Set (the one with questions removed). Explain WHY The Second Reliability Coefficient either increased or decreased. Turn this assignment in with your final. Student Resume` -- Each student will develop a resume`/vitae for their ideal job upon graduation. Due Monday January 21, 2008 (point total= 25) Tests -- Tests will be given on the material covered for the following weeks: Test 1-- Monday February 11, 2008-- Material covered for January 14 -- February 6. (point total = 100 pts.) Test 2-- Wednesday March 26, 2008-- Material covered for February 13 -- March 12. (point total = 125 pts.) Test 3-- Monday April 21, 2008-- Material covered for March 22 -- April 16. (point total = 150 pts.) Final Exam-- Monday May 5, 2008 (5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) -- Comprehensive. (point total = 250 pts.) Science Fair Judging. (50 points)— Saturday march 8, 2008 (8:30 am—Noon) in the UTPB Gym Class Projects -- Five data analysis projects will be completed by each student, and a typed report will be turned in no later than 7 days from the time of data collection. (50 pts. for each report). Fitnessgram Data Collection - Students will go to elementary and secondary schools and collect fitnessgram data with a P.E. Teacher. Date - TBA (50 points) |
